In 2020 Harvest Green Developments supported with the construction of a 1MW Solar Farm in Carlisle. Harvest were appointed to complete the DC and AC side of the installation, alongside overall site management with the mechanical works and HV works being completed by other contractors.
Kingmoor Park consists of three large land areas in Carlisle, with the following three developments:
- Kingmoor Park North
- Kingmoor Park Central
- Kingmoor Park South
With space to further grow the business park into 175 acres of unutilised land, Kingmoor Park is to become a leading, sustainable business park through their passion for creating valued, multi-sourced energy solutions for our expanding community of on-site businesses.
The business park is home to over 150 businesses, employing some 2,500 people, including DPD, UPS, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Story Homes, and Thomas Graham. Kingmoor Park is the premier industrial estate to Carlisle. Located approximately 2.5 miles north of Carlisle City Centre and adjacent to Junction 44 of the M6, making Kingmoor Park a great place to do business.
Key Facts
In order to facilitate the activities of the other contractors we initially constructed a site compound, consisting of office space, toilet and handwashing faculties, canteens, drying rooms and storage space. We also managed the temporary power and lighting solution on site, as the site compound location had no services nearby and the installation of the solar farm was to take place in the depths of winter.
Due to the very poor ground conditions, we arranged for Trakway pads to be installed by Sunbelt Rentals, to provide hardstanding across the site compound. Typically used for festivals, the Trakway pads provide a suitable surface to land cabins, storage units and the rest of the welfare facilities within the site compound.
Next we completed the perimeter fencing around the solar farm to protect the installation and prevent unwanted access.
The mechanical team were in next, completing the piling and construction of the framework, whilst also installing the solar modules ready for the next phase, DC works.
Our team got to work, stringing the installation and installing ducting across the site, to feed the DC power back to the inverter station at the top of the development.
Lastly we supported contractors installing the CCTV system, installing the site gates and closing down the site compound, removing the cabins and other structures from the site.
Sector: Solar Farm & Construction
Kingmoor chose to utilise some of the poorer grade development land to site the solar farm, due to poor local drainage and limited scope for building on this part of the development. As a large business park supplied by numerous large electricity connections from the DNO, Kingmoor chose to feed the electricity in from the development at MV (11,000 Volts) to allow it to connect the existing MV ring across the site.
The site is home to many large, power hungry businesses, who wished to work with Kingmoor Park to reduce energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint and be more sustainable for the future.
Install Type
SMA string Solar PV System with a DC system size of 1000kW coupled up to 750kW of inverters. Import & Export monitoring to allow the client to measure energy use within the facility.
Technology
The Solar PV system installed for Kingmoor Park includes: SMA inverters, with Solar PV modules from Jinko Solar, and mounting kit from CWF GmbH.
