Preparations are underway to deploy a 2.116MW solar energy park for Enovert at former landfill site

Harvest Green Developments is absolutely thrilled to announce our preparations have begun for the construction of a new solar energy park on a former landfill site in Gloucester for our client Enovert. This innovative project beautifully demonstrates that it is entirely possible to use renewable energy technologies to transform an area that was once considered a brownfield site back into a green environment capable of generating 2.116MW of clean electricity.

The groundwork for this solar energy park began in 2020 when initial discussions were held with Enovert to explore the possibilities of unlocking the land available for a more sustainable venture. Through our collaboration, we designed and developed a robust proposal for Enovert’s Gloucestershire site for what would become a significant renewable energy project for both of us. Harvest Green Developments have played an instrumental role in assisting the project through the planning permission process, successfully obtaining approval and marking a pivotal step in bringing this vision to life.

One of the critical challenges we faced during the planning phase was assessing the ground conditions at the former landfill site. With a multitude of factors to consider, including soil stability and potential environmental impacts, our team has dedicated significant time and resources to thoroughly test the ground conditions. This meticulous approach ensures that our system design will be durable and robust for the unique challenges posed by the landfill environment.

Once operational, the Gloucester solar energy park is expected to generate an astounding 2,140,771kWh of clean electricity per year. This level of energy production has the potential to supply power to thousands of homes, highlighting the essential role this installation will play in the local community and beyond. Moreover, the transition from a landfill site to an energy park aligns with national and global objectives to harness renewable energy sources and mitigate climate change risks. In terms of environmental impact, this project is projected to save approximately 293,268kg of carbon emissions annually. To put this into perspective, this is equivalent to taking around 130 fossil fuelled cars off the road each year, demonstrating the significant ecological benefits that the solar energy park will deliver.

The solar PV installation will feature 4,032 Tier 1 solar panels from Longi Solar, renowned for their efficiency and durability. These modules will be complemented by 16 Solis inverters, which are recognised for their reliability and effectiveness in converting solar energy into usable power. A high-quality ground-mounted structure designed and supplied by Solar Mounting will ensure optimal positioning and stability for the solar panels, maximising energy generation whilst effectively utilising the available space. By integrating the latest technology available from trusted partners, we assure the efficiency and longevity of the system, providing continuous support to Enovert’s commitment to sustainability.

Collaboration has been a cornerstone of this project’s success. Working seamlessly with Enovert, local authorities, and other stakeholders, we have been dedicated to ensuring that every element of the solar energy park aligns with stringent regulations and environmental best practices. Our comprehensive planning and build process reflects our drive to create a project that can stand as a model for future solar initiatives on similar sites.

Construction for the installation is scheduled to commence in August 2024, with completion expected to be finalised in December 2024. As we move closer to the start date, our focus remains trained on deploying the project with precision and care, adhering to timelines and regulations whilst ensuring quality at every step of the build. During the construction phase, we will engage skilled professionals who are well-versed in this type of work, further underscoring our serious commitment to safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this solar energy park is its ability to change perceptions about what can be achieved on previously unusable land. Many still associate landfills with waste and pollution, but through innovative renewable energy technologies we hope to change this perception and turn these kinds of sites into valuable assets. Stay tuned for updates as we bring this installation project to life, showcasing how a capable partnership paired with a desire to promote the importance of sustainability can lead to a meaningful change.
